Use Case: Monitoring Air Quality During Pregnancy

During pregnancy, quite a lot changes, including your sense of smell. One of our customers suffered from an especially sensitive pregnancy nose and therefore wanted to know for certain whether the air in her home was clean, and thus healthy for herself and her baby. Here, we report on her experience.

Goal: identifying the cause of foul odors during pregnancy

Due to water damage from a burst pipe in the bathroom at the start of her pregnancy, mold had formed on the opposite wall in the bedroom. On top of that, there was a damp floor and enormously elevated humidity, at times over 80%. The damage was fixed, but the pregnant customer found no peace and could barely sleep soundly in the bedroom anymore. Despite the renovation work, she kept noticing unpleasant smells, which she considered unhealthy for herself and the baby. She couldn't determine, though, whether the cause of the smells was still mold spores, the newly laid flooring, the wall paint, or humidity. 

Since her surroundings also noticed the smell change, though much less intensely than she did, she wanted to get to the bottom of it. For this, she used the air-Q air quality monitor.

Method: air measurement with the air-Q basic

We sent her the basic model, the air-Q basic "Formaldehyde Special" air analyzer with 11 sensors and the additional hydrogen sulfide sensor. She checked air quality in the bedroom as well as at two other locations. Thanks to the dimmable, or even fully switchable-off, LEDs, she could sleep undisturbed.

Results: reassuring readings for the pregnant customer

The evaluation showed no concerning pollutants. This reassured the pregnant customer. The suspected unhealthy air seemed to be attributable to our customer's sensitive sense of smell, and thus to a pregnancy-related malfunction of her nose.

In the air-Q smartphone app, she could read off the health index. The display of harmless air quality at 92% significantly contributed to a more relaxed situation for the pregnant customer. The other measurements also showed no abnormalities: the fluctuating readings stayed within the recommended limit values. Even humidity stayed below the expected limit values.
