air-Q Alarms: The Alarms Our Air Quality Monitor Offers

In critical situations, every second counts: for example, when gas leaks, a spark starts smoldering, or someone gains unauthorized access to your property. The air-Q monitors air components down to the second. If certain values fall below or exceed set thresholds, the air-Q sounds an alarm. We explain in detail which alarms the device offers.

Security for Your Property – with air-Q Alarms

Vacation time, a second home, a holiday apartment, an Airbnb, or storage rooms: you can't always be on-site at your property. Still, you want to be sure that everything's in order. A security system for your home using surveillance cameras is expensive. What's more, camera-based security systems film people without their consent. In some cases, for example when you rent out the premises, surveillance cameras can't be used at all, since personal data would then be recorded without consent – this is NOT compliant with current data protection regulations.

The air-Q air quality monitor supports you without any camera surveillance at all, and it's GDPR-compliant. It continuously measures the composition of the indoor air and evaluates it in real time. In dangerous situations or noteworthy events, the air-Q warns you immediately – and does so across multiple dimensions with various alarms you can activate individually!

In hazardous situations, you receive the following alarms (each individually activatable):

  • acoustic via tone signal
  • visual via LED traffic-light display
  • push notification
  • email

The air-Q's multi-channel warning system sends alarms through various channels

In the event of smoke, fire, life-threatening levels of carbon monoxide or methane (heating gas), or signs of unauthorized entry, the air-Q emits a loud tone and sends a push or email notification. This way, you always know what's happening at your property.

The air-Q alarms are suitable for monitoring the following types of property:

  • Vacation & second homes
  • Garden sheds
  • Airbnb apartments
  • Homes & apartments, when you're away for extended periods (vacation, etc.)
  • Storage rooms
  • Caravans & campers outside of travel season

In the air-Q app, you can activate or deactivate all alarms using sliders and choose which channels you want to be notified through. Here's a detailed look at the alarms the air-Q offers.

air-Q Fire Alarm

The air-Q includes a built-in fire alarm (or smoke alarm). If the stored threshold values for carbon monoxide (CO), air temperature, and particulate matter (PM₁ – PM₂,₅ – PM₁₀) are exceeded, both an acoustic and a visual alarm are triggered on the device.

Since the air-Q offers a very fine and precise fire/smoke alarm, it makes an ideal supplement to your existing legally mandated smoke detector. That's because it detects potentially dangerous situations noticeably, and possibly decisively, earlier.

In addition, you can freely configure further custom notifications. For instance, you could also set up a freestanding smoke alarm to find out whether someone is smoking in your property without permission. This feature is especially interesting for apartments marketed as smoke-free vacation rentals. If you offer guests of your Airbnb a self-check-in and check-out, you can use the alert to determine whether windows were closed or the heating turned off after departure. And all without expensive camera surveillance!

air-Q Gas Alarm

If your property has gas-powered appliances, investing in a gas detector is worthwhile. The air-Q checks the gas content of the air and reacts sensitively to various hazardous air components. A gas leak can quickly have devastating consequences. Many gases are neither detectable by smell nor by any visible change. Nevertheless, they can spread quickly and unnoticed and build up to a dangerous or even explosive concentration. A gas detector like the air-Q detects all air components and monitors closely. It can even detect unknown gases (indirectly, via monitoring the oxygen level, which always factors into the gas alarm as well) and sound an alarm.

Monitoring via an air quality monitor is also suitable for pellet storage. That's because wood pellets can produce carbon monoxide. If you inhale this odorless, non-irritating, and therefore barely perceptible gas, you risk fatal poisoning. Place the air quality monitor in your pellet storage room, and it will measure the CO concentration and warn you of impending poisoning.

The air-Q gas alarm is triggered when relevant readings such as oxygen (O₂), ozone (O₃), nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), ammonia (NH₃), chlorine/chlorine gas (Cl₂), hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), or methane (CH₄) exceed or fall below set thresholds. If readings drop or rise to concerning levels, the gas alarm emits its acoustic and visual signal and sends you a message via your chosen channels.

For more information on the threshold values for the fire and gas alarm, see our dedicated page.

air-Q Access Alarm

Our newest alarm is the access alarm. It enables remote monitoring and burglary protection for properties in a fully data-protection-compliant way, since only air values are measured and analyzed, with no video recordings via surveillance camera or other personal data collected. Once the new access alarm is activated, a smart background service checks whether changes in the indoor air can be detected. The air-value-based security system for your home now triggers when the situation changes significantly and a person is detected. The alarm can, for example, be activated remotely while you're away, such as during vacation or when the property stands vacant.

Through a tight interval of roughly 1.8 seconds, the sensors continuously scan the air components. In doing so, the alert detects all relevant air parameters via its integrated noise and CO₂ sensors. This lets you determine in real time whether a person is present in your premises or not.

Sensitive sensors are capable of detecting even the smallest changes in air. This means changes in the composition of the indoor air are detected early on. For example, when a person gains unauthorized access. The device recognizes this based on CO₂ levels, which rise from one or more people exhaling, or from rising noise levels. Even a door opening can be identified by the sensitive sensors based on the air composition. In these cases, the security system emits both a visual and an acoustic signal, which has a deterrent effect on burglars. This way, the air-Q offers reliable burglary protection. You'll also receive a warning notification via the channels of your choice.

We recommend only activating the burglary alarm when you'll actually be away from the property for an extended period. Otherwise, you'll trigger the alarm yourself as soon as you re-enter your premises. Suitable locations include the living room or other rooms where people spend extended periods of time. We advise against placing it in the hallway, since this room is merely a passage, and burglars tend to spend noticeably less time there than in other rooms.

You'll also receive a push notification if the air-Q switches off. This could happen, for example, due to a power outage caused by a storm in the vacation area.

When monitoring your property, you can forgo a large security system with built-in video surveillance, which comes with high costs both for purchase and maintenance. Keep an easy eye on your property from anywhere. While the air-Q isn't a classic home alarm device, its sensitive sensors and various alarms offer you a fine-grained air analysis with a built-in multi-alarm system. Via the smartphone app or the air-Q Web App, you monitor the air components and always know whether everything's fine or whether you need to take action.

Summary

What is the air-Q alarm?
The air-Q alarm is an air quality monitor that measures the composition of indoor air and evaluates it in real time. In dangerous situations such as smoke, gas leaks, or unauthorized entry, it warns you with acoustic, visual, and digital notifications.
How is the air-Q alarm used for property security?
The air-Q is suitable for monitoring vacation homes, second homes, storage rooms, or even RVs when you're away. It offers a data-protection-compliant solution without surveillance cameras by detecting changes in the air and responding to them.
Which alarms does the air-Q offer?
The air-Q offers various alarms such as a fire alarm (based on smoke, CO, and particulate matter), a gas alarm (for hazardous gases like methane, CO, or ammonia), and an access alarm (for unauthorized entry based on changes in the air).
How does the air-Q's access alarm work?
The access alarm detects changes in the indoor air triggered by a person, such as rising CO₂ levels from breathing or increasing noise. In the event of unauthorized entry, the alarm is triggered and sends a notification.
